Xarchiver is under GNU GPL posed front-end for a variety of data compression - and packers . The user interface was implemented in GTK + ; the program itself is in C written.

At Xarchiver, the programmers attached great importance to user friendliness , speed and resource-saving implementation. These properties make the program ideal for use on less powerful computers. Xarchiver was therefore part of the Xfce project for a long time , but the Xfce dependency was abandoned with the advent of other narrow desktop environments such as LXDE . Xarchiver is often the standard archive management program in corresponding Linux distributions that are supplied with Xfce or LXDE.

On December 16, 2008, Xarchiver was awarded the Soft82 Award with 5 out of 5 points as excellent.

Functions

Xarchiver can display, manipulate, extract or create the contents of archives ; however, the corresponding backend program must be installed for this. The following archive formats are currently supported:

Encrypted archives are supported for the file formats * .arj, * .rar and * .zip. The XDS protocol enables operation using drag and drop .
