The hump lizards ( Xenosaurus ) are a genus from the order of the scale reptiles (Squamata).
They are native to Mexico, Central America, and southern China. Your closest relatives are the sneaks and the ringed sneaks . Under their scales they have bone plates that are not fused together. You have well-developed extremities.
Systematics
Hump lizards belong to the creeping i. e. S. (Diploglossa) and are the sister group of a common taxon from sneaks (Anguidae) and crusty lizards (Helodermatidae). The Chinese crocodile tail lizard ( Shinisaurus crocodilurus ), which used to belong to the Xenosauridae , is now part of the monotypical family Shinisauridae.
