Xrdp is a server for the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).

Xrdp is free software . The project started in mid-2004. Based on the work on rdesktop , its goal is a functional terminal server for Linux .

The first public version of xrdp was released in mid-2005. The beta development stage has not yet been left. In the meantime the software has already been adapted to BSD .

RDP provides over networks across graphical user ready and uses the available data transfer rate more efficient than the traditional X Window System and the widespread VNC .

Xrdp is based on an X Window System server. Development began with the Xvnc server . With X11rdp, a separate server for the X Window System is now part of xrdp; In addition, a module called xorgxrdp is available from version 0.9.1, which allows direct access by Xrdp to normal X servers using a virtual monitor, mouse and keyboard driver.

From version 0.9.1, Xrdp supports a wide range of features of the RDP protocol, including RemoteFX, Fastpath, file transfer, audio input and output and full support for sharing the clipboard.
