Master Xuecheng (2009)

Xuecheng ( Chinese 学诚 , Pinyin Xuéchéng , born 1966 in Xianyou , Fujian Province, People's Republic of China ) is an abbot and representative of Buddhism in various Chinese political assemblies and a high-ranking member of various Buddhist organizations. In 2015 he became President of the Buddhist Association of China (中国佛教协会).

Life

He began his monastic life in 1982 and received ordination from Master Dinghai and followed Master Yuanzhuo on the Buddhist path. In 1991 he graduated from the Buddhist Academy of China with a master's degree. In 2007 he was awarded an honorary doctorate in educational administration from Mahachulalongkorn-Rajavidyalaya University in Thailand . In 2010 he received the Atish Dipankar Golden Peace Prize of Bangladesh. In 2011 he was awarded the Tripitaka Dharma Master's degree by the All-Indian Assembly of Bhikkhus and Sangha .

Master Xuecheng is currently a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Consultative Conference of the Chinese People , Vice-Chairman of the All China Youth Assembly (ACYF, 11th Committee), General Secretary of the Peace Committee of Chinese Religious Communities (CCRP), President of the Buddhist Society of China, the Rector of the Buddhist Academy China, deputy head of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Religious Studies at the Pedagogical University of Beijing , as well as acting abbot of the Guanghua Monastery in Putian (Fujian Province), Abbot of the Famen Monastery in Fufeng (Shaanxi Province) and Abbot of Longquan Beijing Monastery .
