Yōji Akao

Yōji Akao ( Japanese 赤 尾 洋 二 , Akao Yōji ; born October 6, 1928 in Jakarta , Indonesia ; † October 24, 2016 ) was a Japanese economic theorist.

Life

He was a specialist in strategic planning, is considered the developer of Hoshin Management and, in collaboration with Shigeru Mizuno , of Quality Function Deployment . Akao is the founder of the Quality Function Deployment Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving QFD .

Yōji has last been researching at Asahi University since 1995 . His academic career began at the Tōkyō Kōgyō Daigaku ( Tokyo Institute of Technology ), where he also graduated in 1948. From 1962 he taught at Yamanashi University and from 1981 at Tamagawa University .

On October 24, 2016, Prof. Dr. Yoji Akao at the age of 88.

Awards

A prize is named after Akao and has been awarded annually since 1996.
