Yōko Imoto

Yōko Imoto ( Japanese い も と よ う こ , actually 井 本 蓉 子 , Imoto Yōko ; born October 20, 1944 in Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a Japanese picture book author and illustrator.

Imoto has published over 200 books that have been translated into multiple languages ​​including English, German, French, Finnish and Korean. Her best-known works in Japan include a series specifically aimed at babies who come into contact with picture books for the first time; the 24 books in the series have sold over four million times. Other books from her pen are also bestsellers in Japan, such as the illustrated hiragana learning book AIUEO no Ehon , of which 2.4 million copies have been sold. In addition to her own stories mostly about animals, she has also implemented European and Japanese fairy tales, for example by Kenji Miyazawa , as picture books.
