Yaguare Yama

Yaguare Yama (born October 3, 1973 in Manaus , Amazonas state ) is a Brazilian writer of indigenous origin.

Life

Yaguare Yama lived in São Paulo for a long time and returned to the Amazon in 2004. Today he lives in Parintins . His father comes from the indigenous people of Sateré-Mawé , his mother from the Maragua people . He speaks Portuguese, French, and the indigenous languages Maragua and Nheengatu . He is a writer and geography teacher .

Literary work

So far he has published over 20 books in Brazil. Many are in the field of children's and youth literature and tell the old myths, legends and stories of his people, but also those of other indigenous peoples, as they have been told since prehistoric times. Sehaypori is the sacred writing of the Sateré-Mawé people, which was initially laid down in the Puratig, the sacred oar. The book Puratig is the sacred scripture of Sateré-Mawé in a version for children and young people.
