The Yakama Sun Kings were a professional basketball team that played in the Continental Basketball Association . The team was based in Yakima , Washington and played its games in the Yakima Sun Dome .

The team was initially based in Kansas City , Missouri , but soon moved to Topeka . In 1990 the team moved to Washington State and was renamed "Yakima Sun Kings". There they had an unusually successful time for CBA teams and won the championship in 1995, 2000 and 2003. After two less successful years, the team was sold to the Yakama Indian tribe in the summer of 2005 . They renamed the team "Yakama Sun Kings".

In the 2005/06 season Ronny Turiaf ran for a total of nine games for the Sun Kings. Turiaf had been drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers the previous summer , but then had to undergo open heart surgery, whereupon his contract was terminated. Six months after the operation, Turiaf was on the field for the Sun Kings for the first time. In his games he came to 13 points and nine rebounds on average and was then taken back under contract by the Lakers.

After two more championships in 2006 and 2007, it was announced on April 10, 2010 that the team had to cease playing due to ongoing losses. Negotiations with new investors did not lead to any result, so that the team has not become active again to this day.
