The Yamato Un'yu KK ( Japanese ヤ マ ト 運輸 株式会社 , Yamato Un'yu Kabushiki kaisha , Engl. Yamato Transport Co., Ltd. ) is Japan's largest courier company .

In 2010, Yamato had a market share of 41%. The company has 50 billion yen corporate capital and 142,209 employees as of March 15, 2013. President is Masaki Yamauchi (as of December 2013).

The company's headquarters are in Ginza ( Tokyo ). The parent company Yamato Holdings has several subsidiaries, including in the USA , South Korea , the People's Republic of China , Taiwan and Singapore . The Yamato Transport Europe BV is based in the Netherlands .

Yamato Un'yu KK (until 1982 大 和 運輸 株式会社 ) was founded in November 1919. At that time the company had four trucks. In 1923 a regular delivery service was established between Tokyo and Yokohama . In May 1949, Yamato Un'yu went public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange . In 1950 one began to work with air freight. The international parcel service was approved in 1955. In 2005 the group of companies was transformed into a holding company - Yamato Holdings KK ( ヤ マ ト ホ ー ル デ ィ ン グ ス 株式会社 ) - and the transport segment was spun off as the new Yamato Un'yu KK.

The yellow company logo ( Kuro-neko ) with the black mother cat carrying her young is one of the most famous in Japan. It was originally used by the American company Allied Van Lines , which approved the use of Yamato in 1957. The cat logo has been in use at Yamato Un'yu since June 1957.
