Yannis Pouspourikas (* 1971 in Marseille ) is a French conductor.

Life

Yannis Pouspourikas grew up in Marseille. He studied at the Geneva Conservatory and at the Zurich Opera House . He assisted Simon Rattle as second conductor at the Glyndebourne Festival and from 2000 to 2004 had an engagement at the Opéra National de Paris . From 2004 he was a permanent guest conductor of the Orchester National de Lyon and from 2005 to 2009 he held the same position with the Orchester Symphonique de Mulhouse . In 2008 he became Kapellmeister at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp / Gent for the first time and was on the podium in Peter Grimes , Samson et Dalila , Candide , Hérodiade ( Jules Massenet ) and in the rise and fall of the city of Mahagonny .

In addition to the opera, he is also employed in the symphonic business. Pouspourikas has been the first conductor of the Aalto Theater since the 2013/14 season and came with the new artistic director Hein Mulders , with whom he had already worked in Antwerp.
