Yasir or Yassir ( Persian یاسر) is an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone, UAV) of the Iran Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO) which was presented to the public on September 28, 2013. The main tasks of the Yasir are military reconnaissance , surveillance and the gathering of intelligence information . The drone is a replica of the American Boeing ScanEagle and can reach a service ceiling of 4500 m with a flight duration of a maximum of eight hours. The radius of action is approx. 200 km.

Development history

In December 2012, military authorities in Iran claimed to have intercepted two US ScanEagles over the Persian Gulf . The US Navy , as the operator of the US ScanEagles, claimed, however, that no ScanEagles are missing in the Middle East. On December 17, 2012, the IAIO announced the series production of the drone and the deployment of the unmanned missile. Recordings of the Iranian production facilities were published as evidence.

In October 2012, during a five-day visit by the Russian Aviator Colonel General Viktor Bondarev , a Yasir was presented to the Russian delegation as a gift.
