history

A larger previous building stood on the property on Argentinierstrasse, which was rebuilt and expanded around 1867, creating a huge palace . The facade was in an elegant neo-renaissance style. The architect is not known; According to style analyzes, the facade could have come from Carl Tietz . After completion, the house was bought by the family of Archduke Leopold Salvator of Austria-Tuscany . In 1908 he moved with his family to Wilhelminenberg Castle and rented the palace. After the fall of the Habsburg Monarchy, the Archduke moved to Spain. The palace was bombed during the Second World War, the palace was demolished in 1946 and the property was sold to the Austrian broadcasting company. The site has long been used as a parking lot. Today the Toscanahof stands on the site, a modern office building with sophisticated architecture.
