Son Marroig is a manor house in Mallorca . It is located between Sóller and Valldemossa near Deià .

history

Formerly owned by the Austrian Archduke Ludwig Salvator , it has housed a museum since 1928 with items from Ludwig Salvator's possession, including historical furniture, ceramics and Mallorcan paintings from the 17th to 19th centuries.

The archduke's literary works are exhibited in several showcases in the main hall with the loggia .

The property is right on the cliff opposite the Na Foradada peninsula. At the end of the cliff is a small round temple made of white marble in ancient Greek architecture. With his yacht Nixe he could dock directly from the sea. Empress Elisabeth visited him here and came with her yacht.

The Archduke also owned the neighboring Son Moragues estate with over 800 hectares and the Miramar Monastery. With this he established a nature park around the property under his protection in order to preserve the general landscape in its natural state. He created a hiking trail, the Archduke's Path , which became the most famous hiking trail in the Serra de Tramuntana.

The property also includes the smaller Villa S'Estanca , which he had built in the 19th century. In 1990 she was bought by the American actor Michael Douglas .
