The Palais Meran is a former Graz palace on Leonhardstraße in the second district of St. Leonhard .

history

The palace was built from 1841 to 1843 by Georg Hauberisser the Elder as a residential palace for Archduke Johann . The house is surrounded by a large park and was built on the grounds of a former Meierhof. The Archduke had the property relieved of its servitude in 1834 and died in the Palais Meran on May 11, 1859. It was named after his son Count Franz von Meran , who had received this title in 1844.

After the addition of the north wing in 1880, the large structure was expanded in 1939 and 1963. The University of Music and Performing Arts Graz has been on the premises since 1963 .

architecture

The palace was built in the style of late classicism . It has an elongated face. The wrought iron door lattice leaves come from the construction period. The coat of arms of Archduke Johann is attached to the gable. The three-aisled vestibule consists of three bays and has a square vault on pillars. The ballroom on the first floor is a Stuccolustro provided -Wandgliederung, a wooden ceiling with carvings and various arms images.
