Facade detail

The Palais Kottulinsky is a former Graz palace on the corner of Elisabethstrasse and Beethovenstrasse in the third district of Geidorf .

history

The palace was built in 1853 by the architect Georg Hauberisser the Elder. Ä. built and rebuilt in 1892 by August Gunolt and Georg Hönel. The late 19th century building was given a neo-baroque facade at the end of the 19th century. The large garden at the back has meanwhile been built in or is used as a parking lot. The former stable building has been changed significantly over time, torn down and replaced by a modern residential building. The Kottulinsky nightclub is located in the basement of the palace , the ground floor and first floor are used by the University of Graz.

Architecture and design

The two-storey structure was originally designed as a free-standing building and has three representative facade sides. The front side has a central projection and the upper floor is structured by pilasters . The coat of arms of the Kottulinsky family from Upper Silesia is located above the balcony. It is unusual to have the main entrance on the courtyard side instead of the front side. The listed, neo-baroque entrance gate faces Beethovenstrasse. The interior of the palace has a representative interior.
