Carl Tietz (born January 25, 1831 in Jastrow , West Prussia , † August 3, 1874 in Oberdöbling ) was a German architect of historicism who lived and worked in Austria .

Carl Tietz, who came from a humble background, completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and later worked as a site manager for Eduard Titz (who was not related to him). In 1852 he passed the master craftsman examination . Since Eduard Titz entrusted him with the construction of the Circus Renz in Vienna in the same year , Carl Tietz came to Austria and stayed here as an architect. In Vienna, Tietz was one of the Ringstrasse architects. He built numerous important palaces in the style of "strict historicism" . In 1869, before he became mentally ill, he had 36 different construction sites in Vienna. He died in a private mental hospital in Oberdöbling.
