Headquarters in Berlin

The parent company in Berlin, which was founded as Circus Olympic in 1842 , and in which Johann Strauss (son) led the Berlin premiere of the Danube Waltz with Benjamin Bilse's chapel on May 25, 1867 , had to move to its original location due to the construction of the train station Give up Friedrichstrasse . On April 20, 1879, the circus moved into the former building of the first Berlin market hall on Friedrichstrasse (since 1891 Am Zirkus 1), the auditorium of which was expanded to 5,600 seats in 1888.

After Franz Renz had given up the company on July 31, 1897 due to financial difficulties, Albert Schumann (1858–1939) took over the Berlin circus building on October 28, 1899 and operated his Circus Schumann there until 1918 .

reception

  • Souvenir de Cirque Renz ( memories of circus Renz ) is the title of a fast and technically demanding piece of music for xylophone and orchestra that is part of the standard repertoire of xylophone players. It was composed around 1894 by Gustav Peter (1833–1919). Another musical reminiscence is the Gavotte Circus Renz, the Hermann fly composed.
