The Grand Hotel Wien is a 5-star hotel in Vienna on the Ringstrasse . It is located at Kärntner Ring 9 in Vienna's 1st district . The operator Grand Hotel GmbH is a 100% subsidiary of Erste Wiener Hotel AG, which has been owned by Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber since 2002 .

history

Anton Schneider (1820–1872), the actual founder of the hotel business in Vienna on a larger scale, completed the maison meublée in 1863 at the same location (and thus in the first section of the emerging Vienna Ringstrasse ) according to plans by architect Carl Tietz (1831–1874) , the so-called Schneider'sche Haus , a palace-like 56.6 m long and 23.5 m deep building in which Archduke Wilhelm (1827-1894) moved into an apartment .

Schneider, known as a hotelier primarily for the Zum Erzherzog Karl house ( Kärntner Strasse 31; building demolished after 1945), owned adjoining properties, which he sold to a stock corporation which, also according to plans by Carl Tietz, owned the building with around 300 Rooms and 200 bathrooms. The opening took place on May 10, 1870 under director Anton Schneider.

In 1911 the neighboring buildings at Kärntner Ring 11 and 13 are bought and incorporated into the hotel business. After the Second World War , the Russian occupation forces used the building until 1955, which was then renovated. It reopened in 1957. In 1958, the building was bought by the Austrian government for the International Atomic Energy Agency . After this organization moved in 1979, the Japanese airline and hotel chain All Nippon Airways (ANA) bought the building in 1989 . The ANA rebuilt it, whereby only the main facade was preserved. The reopening as "ANA Grand Hotel" after the renovation took place in 1994.

On August 1, 2002, ANA sold the hotel to the JJW Hotels & Resorts consortium , whereupon the hotel was renamed "Grand Hotel". The Grand Hotel Wien has since been part of the “ Leading Hotels of the World ”.

Furnishing

The Grand Hotel Wien has 205 rooms and suites as well as several restaurants. There are also two bars, seminar rooms, a wellness area and a ballroom.
