history

The rental palace was built in 1856–58 by the architect Carl Tietz for Franz Heinrich Reichsgraf von Schlik in the urban expansion area of New Vienna . The construction was carried out by the city architect Anton Grünn . From 1270 to 1788 the Rabenstein, the "Viennese High Court", stood here. The place of execution consisted of a round brick terrace on which the convicts were judged.

description

The five-story corner house, built in the style of early historicism, has an architectural peculiarity with the round corner tower. The tower was originally one storey lower and closed with the cordon with dentil frieze on the two facades. The top floor was not added to the tower until 1872 and made a little lower in order to maintain the original impression of the raised side fronts of the building. Due to the surrounding balconies, the tower has a stronger horizontal structure than the side facades. Between the windows of the floors of the corner tower are pilasters, which have been replaced by caryatids on the fourth floor. The grooved façade rises above a rectangular basement with a belt cornice with tooth cut decoration. Additive arched windows with simple straight window roofing are only framed by pilasters on the attic floor. The center of the facade in Türkenstrasse is emphasized by three-axis round portals. The three window axes of the two floors above are highlighted by continuous balconies and the fourth floor by three individual balconies.
