Yenatfenta Abate ( Amharic የናት ፋንታ አባተ ; born November 30, 1973 in Ethiopia ) is an Ethiopian-German artist with a focus on fine art. She has lived and worked in Berlin since 2008 .

Life

Yenatfenta Abate's artistic development goes back to early childhood and developed intensively when she began studying at the School of Fine Arts in Addis Ababa , where she was the only woman in her class to be enrolled.

In 1990 Abate received the “Montreal Prize”, an award that was linked to a scholarship that made it possible to continue studying abroad. She opted for Germany, followed by a degree in art education at the Heidelberg University of Education . In 1993 she moved to the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg and, after successfully completing her basic studies, studied "Fine Art". She finished her studies in 2003 with a diploma from Professor Olav Christopher Jenssen as the best of the year.

In 2004 she went on to study as a master class student with Franz Erhard Walther , which ended in 2008 with an extensive exhibition.

Yenatfenta Abate designed one of the first Buddy Bears , which will be set up as representatives of Berlin and Germany at all German embassies in the world. The German ambassador in Addis Ababa, Joachim Schmidt , presented this to the Ethiopian public for the first time in May 2015.
