Yin Li

Yin Li ( Chinese  尹 力 , Pinyin Yǐn Lì ; born in Jinan in August 1962 ) is a Chinese politician and former public health officer who has served as the governor of Sichuan since January 2016 . As a health professional with diverse international experience, Yin held leading positions in the China Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization prior to joining the government .

Life

Yin was born in Jinan ( Shandong ). He studied at Shandong Experimental High School and then at Shandong Medical College (later merged with Shandong University ). He also holds a degree in public health from the Soviet Union . In 1993 he began his work in the stately research office (State Council Research Office). In the research office, he served as head of the international department and as an inspection officer.

Between 2002 and 2003, Yin was visiting Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. In May 2003 he started his work at the Ministry of Health, where he worked as Deputy Chief of Staff, Director for International Cooperation, Chief of Staff and until September 2008 as Deputy Minister of Health. In 2004 he joined the Executive Committee of the World Health Organization.

In February 2012 he was appointed head of the State Medicines Agency. In April 2013, he was appointed deputy director of the newly created National Health and Family Planning Commission and deputy director of the China Food and Drug Administration, which was the result of the merger of several government departments.

In March 2015, he was "transferred" to Sichuan to become the provincial deputy party leader; in May 2015 he also became head of provincial propaganda. This was noteworthy as Yin had no regional political experience at all before 2015. On January 29, 2016, Yin assumed the office of governor of Sichuan after his predecessor Wei Hong resigned following an internal investigation by his party. Yin was the first governor of the province to pledge allegiance to the constitution at his inauguration ceremony.

Yin was an alternate member of the 18th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and a full member of the 19th Central Committee.
