Ferran Ardèvol i Miralles

Ferran Ardèvol i Miralles (born October 5, 1887 in Barcelona , † October 29, 1972 ibid) was a Catalan musicologist, orchestra conductor, pianist and composer. As a pianist, Ardèvol belonged to the Catalan School of Pianists .

life and work

Ardèvol was a student of Josep Rodoreda and Carles Vidiella at the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona .

He was the conductor of the Orfeó Nova Catalònia from 1901 to 1904 and of the Orfeó Canigó from 1910 to 1912 . During this time his first compositions such as the Quartet in G minor and the Mass in B minor , both of which were premiered by Orfeó Canigó .

Out of a deep interest in music education, he founded the Institut Musical Acadèmia Ardèvol in 1917 . As a result of this establishment, chamber music ensembles emerged such as the Trio Ardèvol with the violinist Ferran Guerin and the cellist Ferran Pérez , the Ardèvol Quartet , which consisted of the aforementioned trio members and the violinist Gracià Tarragó , and the Orquestra de Cambra Ardèvol , the chamber orchestra Ardèvol . These ensembles played an important role in the cultural life of the city of Barcelona in the 1920s.

Ardèvol has written several works, including the symphony for the 1929 World's Fair in Barcelona. However, he was recognized for this only in the 1950s with two awards from the city of Barcelona.

During the Spanish Civil War he worked as a teacher at the Liceu in Barcelona . After Franco's victory in the civil war, he had to move to Gijón , where he ran a music school. In 1953 he was able to return to Barcelona.
