Carles Gumersind Vidiella i Esteba (born May 12, 1856 in Arenys de Mar , † October 4, 1915 in Barcelona ) was a Catalan pianist, music teacher and composer. Vidiella was one of the most important figures in the Catalan school of pianists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Live and act

At the age of four he moved to Barcelona, ​​where he studied with Joan Baptista Pujol . In 1877 he went to Paris to study with Antoine François Marmontel . In 1879 he made his debut with great success in the French capital at a concert in the Spanish selection at the World's Fair . Vidiella changed his concert activities with phases in which he was mainly active in piano education.

Vidiella was a member of the Barcelona Music Association, founded in 1888. His style of presentation was characterized by an almost perfect phrasing. He refrained from any showmanship or artificiality. His repertoire essentially comprised works by Domenico Scarlatti, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Ludwig van Beethoven, Frederic Chopin and Robert Schumann. He founded a private piano academy that bore his name.

In 1906 he composed a romanza for piano. Until his retirement in 1914, Vidiella gave numerous concerts. Important students of Carles Vidiella were Joaquim Nin i Castellanos and Robert Goberna .
