Ylläs-Levi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ylläs – Levi ski marathon is a cross-country skiing race that is held annually at the beginning of April in northern Finland using classic technique . The race is held over a distance of 70 km from Ylläsjärvi on Yllästunturi to Levi . These two places are actually known for alpine skiing. The route runs partly through the Pallas Yllästunturi National Park . A shortened and less steep variant of the race starts in Äkäslompolo and leads over 55 km to Levi.

The first official race took place in 2016 with the participation of well-known cross-country skiers such as Pertti Teurajärvi , Oddvar Brå and Jari Isometsä . In previous years, Ylläs-Levi was organized as a private ski marathon by a small group of ski enthusiasts.

The ski race has been part of the Ski Classics competition series since the 2016/17 season and has been the end of it ever since.

In 2018, 603 men and 93 women reached the destination over the 70 km route.
