Äkäslompolo [ ˈækæslɔmpɔlo ] is a place in the municipality of Kolari in the Finnish part of Lapland . It is located on the lake of the same name northeast of the main town of Kolari. Äkäslompolo had 394 inhabitants on December 31, 2005.

Along with Ylläsjärvi, Äkäslompolo is the most important starting point for the Yllästunturi ski area , also known as Ylläs for short . The Ylläs ski area is characterized by a dense network of cross-country trails with a total length of 330 km and the alpine ski area at Yllästunturi with 61 slopes and 29 lifts. In summer, Äkäslompolo is popular with hikers, anglers, canoeists and friends of other outdoor sports. There are several hotels and a large number of holiday homes in the village.

The landscape in Äkäslompolo is characterized by forested mountains, the peaks of which are mostly above the tree line ( Fjell ). The seven fells Ylläs ( 718  m ), Lainio ( 613  m ), Kesänki ( 535  m ), Pyhä ( 495  m ), Kukas ( 474  m ), Kuer ( 445  m ) and Kellostapuli ( 416  m ) are in the vicinity of Äkäslompolo , which is why the place is known as the "Village of the Seven Fells". However, the Kukas is already in the area of ​​the municipality of Muonio , and the Lainio and the Pyhä in the area of ​​the municipality of Kittilä . There are also many lakes and extensive moorland.

In addition to a large number of smaller moor lakes, there are four larger lakes near the place: Äkäslompolo ( 216  m ), Kesänkijärvi ( 217  m ), Pyhäjärvi ( 243  m ) and Kukasjärvi ( 242  m ). Pyhäjärvi and Kukasjärvi are in the area of ​​the municipality of Kittilä . The Äkäsjoki river flows through the Äkäslompolo, the Kesänkijoki river flows through the Kesänkijärvi and flows into the Äkäslompolo.

Äkäslompolo is in close proximity to the Pallas Yllästunturi National Park . One of the three visitor centers, the Kellokas Visitor Center, is located in Äkäslompolo.
