history

In 1973 the Dane Steen Kjølhede built the first boat of this class, at that time not as a separate boat class, but according to the building regulations of the Karat 30 , and named it Ylva. Ylva was made of mahogany , had a lower freeboard compared to the later series versions and was a little lighter with a smaller sail area.

After a series of victories at the Seeland-Rund regatta, which Ylva won three times in a row in 1973, 1974 and 1975 based on sailing time, the design was further developed in 1976. The boat builder William Jensen from Svanemøllehavn first built five new, revised boats with GRP - hull , but still with a wooden deck and construction. As it turned out, these were even faster than the prototype and won the Seeland-Rund two more times in 1976 and 1977.

In the early 1980s, Luffe Yachts took over production and a total of 89 boats had been built by the Ylva by the end of the 1980s.

Today the Ylva in Denmark is an active unit class with regular regattas and a Danish championship.

properties

The Ylva represents a modern interpretation of Schärenkreuzer represents, as well as the BB10 , the Luffe 37 or Molich 10 M . Characteristic are long lines, narrow width and freeboard. Like the archipelago cruiser, the Ylva has a low displacement and sail area compared to typical IOR constructions, ships of the meter classes or even today's cruising ships . This enables impressive speeds of e.g. B. up to eight knots on the wind.

Inboard engines with an output of 15 to 35 hp were installed as lull valves .
