Yoko Watanabe
Yoko Watanabe ( Japanese渡 辺 葉子, Watanabe Yoko , * 1953 in Fukuoka , Japan, † July 15, 2004 in Milan ) was a Japanese opera singer ( soprano ) who spent much of her career in Europe , where she mainly played the main character of Madama Butterfly became famous.
Life
After studying singing in Tokyo and Milan, she made her debut as “Nedda” in Pagliacci in Treviso.
Her appearances as Micaela in Carmen , Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni , Gretchen in Gounod's Faust and Amelia in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra have also received a lot of attention .
Watanabe died at her home in Milan at the age of 51 after suffering from prolonged cancer .
