Yom-e-Istiqlal

Yom-e-Istiqlal ( Urdu یوم استقلال) is Pakistan's Independence Day and national holiday. It is celebrated on August 14th , the day Pakistan achieved independence from British rule .

Pakistan's independence was officially proclaimed on Thursday, August 14, 1947 at midnight, but the ceremony began half an hour earlier.

Today the day is celebrated across Pakistan. TV stations show special programs throughout the day and also two to three days after and before. According to tradition, the houses are decorated with national flags and other objects.
