Yomba

The Yomba , full name Yomba Shoshone Tribe of the Yomba Reservation , are a nationally recognized tribe of the Western Shoshone . They mostly live in the Yomba Reservation in Nye County , Nevada . The reservation covers approximately 4,681 acres in the Upper Reese River valley . It is divided into two districts, the Upper and the Lower District, each of which elects three members to the leading tribal council, the Tribal Council.

The tribe was constituted on June 18, 1934 under the Indian Reorganization Act . Subsequently, between July 1937 and February 1941, four purchases of unconnected land belonging to four ranches took place . In 1939 the tribe gave itself a statute. Thereafter, a share of at least 50% Shoshone blood is required for membership . In 2014 the tribe had 186 members, 114 of whom lived on the reservation .

The tribe's lands are irrigated by the Upper Reese River as well as by surrounding non-tribal farms.
