Yoriaki Matsudaira

Yoriaki Matsudaira ( Japanese 松 平 頼 暁 , Matsudaira Yoriaki ; born March 27, 1931 in Tokyo Prefecture ), also Yori-Aki Matsudaira , is a Japanese composer.

The son of the composer Yoritsune Matsudaira studied biology at the University of Tokyo . In addition, he trained himself as a pianist and composer. He initially composed serial music, later came to a new modality and, from the 1970s, turned to the u. a. by Allen Forte and John Rahn theoretically based musical set theory and the pitch interval technique .

His works have been selected nine times for performance at the World Music Days of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM). In 1990 he received a special prize at the third Kazimierz Serocki International Competition for Composition . From 1998 to 2002 he was president of the Japanese section of ISCM and organized the World Music Days 2001 in Yokohama. In 2008 he was elected an honorary member of the ISCM.
