The Yorkshire Drydock Box series , or YDD Box for short, is a group of smaller types of coasters produced by the Yorkshire Drydock Company in Kingston upon Hull .
history
The Yorkshire Drydock Company's river-seagoing vessel types were designed in the 1970s on the basis of a series of twin-screw inland vessels from the Yorkshire Drydock Company that were used to transport grain from Liverpool to Manchester. The Eggar Forrester coastal shipping company initially commissioned three coasters of a first series of around 44 meters in length based on this in Hull. These first very simply built units were delivered from 1976. Without cargo, they were only seaworthy to a limited extent as they had no ballast tanks. The drive consisted of two main Caterpillar engines, which transmitted their power to Aquamaster rudder propellers. Their advantage was the low manning of just four men. Three other ships of this 44 meter long type were delivered from Nordsøværftet in Ringkøbing . The construction of the Danish ships was a little more demanding at a lower construction price - for example, they had ballast tanks. All six units were to 1984 R. from the shipping company Lapthorn from Hoo bereedert . Lapthorn's good experience with the units initially managed led to construction contracts for more seaworthy ships from the Yorkshire Drydock Company. A total of 25 further units of several enlarged YDD box types with lengths of 50, 58, 69 and finally 78 meters were ordered there up to the 1990s.
