Yorktown is a city in DeWitt County in the American state of Texas .

Yorktown is in southwest DeWitt County. In the area of ​​the city is the Texas State Highway 72 and the Texas State Highway 119. The entire urban area has a size of about 4.5 km².

history

Yorktown was founded in 1848 by Captain John York and Charles Eckhard, a native of Germany. York had made a name for itself as a soldier in the Texan War of Independence and gave the city its name.
