The Young Bafana Soccer Academy is a non-governmental organization ( NGO ), which in Somerset West ( Cape Town , South Africa ) is dedicated to the holistic development of disadvantaged children and young people from townships through soccer and educational programs. The motto of the Young Bafana Soccer Academy is “Changing Lives” (German: “Changing lives” ). In Germany, the Young Bafana Soccer Academy is registered with BISPO Gießen as a registered association ( e.V. ) .

history

2010, the year of the soccer World Cup in South Africa , founded Bernd Steinhage the Young Bafana Soccer Academy to the development of disadvantaged children from townships (z. B. Athlone , Khayelitsha , Gugulethu , Lwandle, Nomzamo, Zola) via the medium of football to promote.

The Young Bafana Soccer Academy , which began with just eight players in the year it was founded, grew to over 80 players in various teams by 2014. More than 120 children and young people are currently actively cared for and their development is accompanied on a daily basis.

In addition to football skills, the children and young people benefit from educational programs (primarily maths, English), meals after each training unit and the teaching of life skills (e.g. social skills, communication skills).

Anthony Mederer, Grant Webb, Pieter Welgers, Conny Fernandes, Peter Burroughs and founder Bernd Steinhage are on the advisory board.

The Young Bafana Soccer Academy has three permanent employees, supported by numerous students, interns, volunteers and committed people. Football player Roland Putsche ( Cape Town City FC ) is also currently involved as a youth coach at the club.

Teams

In addition to the U18, U15 and U13 teams , which take part in regular game play, the Young Bafana Soccer Academy offers training for children from Beaumont Primary School, the School of Hope and children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The teams' training and match operations are based on professional periodization .

U18

In the 2017 season, the U18 will play as a team in the Cape Town Tygerberg Super League , the highest South African league in this age group. In addition, the team reached the league cup final against the U18s of the Hout Bay Football Club , but lost it 1-0.

U15

In the 2017 season, the U15 were promoted unbeaten to the Cape Town Tygerberg Premier League , which is the second highest league in South Africa.

U13

The U13 play in the Cape Town Tygerberg Promotion League , the third highest South African league at this level. In the 2017 season, the team reached the league cup final, which they lost to Wynberg St. Johns Football Club 2-1.

The Young Bafana Soccer Academy cooperates with the football clubs Tout Puissant Mazembe ( Democratic Republic of the Congo ), Kaizer Chiefs ( South Africa ),

1.FC Cologne , VfL Wolfsburg (both Germany ) and the Somerset West Private School and Hotentots Holland High School .

The Young Bafana Soccer Academy is financed by contributions from the players from the Beaumont Primary School , partners and sponsors in order to enable the township players to participate free of charge, as well as to enable the township players to be transported and supervised .

The U17s train and play their home games on the artificial turf field near the Athlone Stadium, Athlone . The U13, the Social Team and the School of Hope train on the grounds of the Hotentots Holland High School and the Beaumont Primary School .
