from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list of weather disasters from 2015 with a loss of more than one billion US dollars names 29 natural disasters for which Aon Benfield has determined a loss of more than one billion US dollars and where the weather was the cause of the damage. Of these 29 natural events, seven are severe weather events such as hail and tornadoand storm (excluding tropical cyclones), eight are floods after extensive rainfall and three are the consequences of tropical cyclones. There are also three onset of winter and five droughts and two forest fire disasters. According to these calculations, the total economic damage of all natural disasters in 2015 amounts to 123 billion US dollars and is 31% below the average value for the years 2000–2014.

Eleven of these weather disasters affected the United States ; the evaluation of the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration contains only eight such events, because the NCDC determined a loss of less than one billion US dollars in the severe weather disaster from December 22nd to 26th. Seven of the weather-related natural disasters affected parts of the People's Republic of China .
