List of weather disasters of 2014 with a loss of more than one billion US dollars
This list of weather disasters from 2014 with a loss of more than one billion US dollars names 25 natural disasters for which Aon Benfield has determined a loss of more than one billion US dollars and where the weather was the cause of the damage. Of these 25 natural events, eight are severe weather events such as hail , tornado and storm (excluding tropical cyclones), seven are floods after extensive rainfall and five are the consequences of tropical cyclones. There are also two onset of winter and two droughts. According to these calculations, the total economic damage of all natural disasters in 2014 amounts to 132 billion US dollars and is 37% below the average value of the last ten years. (The number of weather-related natural disasters with a total loss of more than one billion US dollars in 2014 is less significantly below the average for the same period.)
Nine of these weather disasters occurred in the United States ; the evaluation of the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration contains only eight such events, because the NCDC determined the damage amount to less than one billion US dollars in the severe weather disaster from April 12 to 14. Six of the weather-related natural disasters affected parts of the People's Republic of China .
