Yoyoy Villame

Yoyoy Villame (born 1938 in Bohol as Roman Villame , † May 18, 2007 in Las Piñas ) was a Filipino singer and actor .

Life

Yoyoy Villame began his acting career in the early 1970s. He had one of his greatest roles in 1974 in the thriller Biktima . In this decade he also drew attention to himself as a singer and was able to enter the US charts with numerous songs. One of his greatest successes was Mag-Exercise Tayo from 1977. In 2004 he played his last film role in the film Women of the Breakwater . His songs were shaped by the history of his homeland and dealt with subjects such as the Portuguese explorer Magellan , who died in Spanish service in the Philippines. Villame also published the book "Philippine Geography" , a work about unusual places in the Philippines.

Yoyoy Villame died after heart problems at Las Piñas Medical Center. He leaves behind a daughter, Hannah Villame, who is also a singer.
