Yuan Xiaofang

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yuan Xiaofang ( Chinese  袁曉 舫  /  袁晓 舫 ) (* 1963 in Huangshi , Hubei Province ) is a contemporary Chinese painter. Through his conceptual art and painting style, he reformed Chinese landscape painting.

Works

Yuan Xiaofang graduated from the Hubei Art College in Wuhan with a degree in painting in 1986 . In the early 90s he began to apply the style of pop art to his Flying Pan series . These paintings show fighter pilots in yellow or orange skies over green mountains and waters. In the historical context, the green mountains and lakes have become symbols of traditional Chinese culture. Yuan Xiaofang's fighter pilots symbolize western modern culture, which is penetrating Chinese tradition and culture in an aggressive way. Glass flower in blossom is another famous series by the artist. The pink images show landscapes, bodies and commercial objects in a digital, three-dimensional look. The painted objects and actors seem to be made of glass and thus convey a cold atmosphere. Yuan Xiaofang is referring here to the widespread ideology of fast, capitalist consumption.
