Li Yundi

Li Yundi ( Chinese  李云迪 , Pinyin Lǐ Yúndí , IPA : [lì jy̌nd̥ǐ]) (born October 7, 1982 in Chongqing , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese pianist . Since around 2012, Yundi Li has only used his first name Yundi as an artist name, as some artists before him did, such as Solomon Cutner .

childhood

Li Yundi only started playing the piano at the age of 7. After only two years he switched to Dan Zhao Yi, one of the most famous piano teachers in China, with whom Li Yundi studied for nine years. Since 1994 he has studied at the Shenzhen Arts School. He later studied with Arie Vardi at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media in Hanover. In 2002 his first CD with music by Chopin was released. Since March 2004 he has been giving concerts in which he mainly plays works by Chopin and Liszt .

Prices

Li won the international Missouri Southern Piano Competition (Junior Division) in 1998, and a year later he won third place at the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht. In the same year he also won the Chinese International Piano Competition. In 1999 he was the winner of the gold medal at the international Gina Bachauer Young Artists piano competition. In October 2000, at the urging of the Chinese Ministry of Culture, Li took part in the 14th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. After two competitions in 1990 and 1995 in which no first prize was awarded, he was the first winner of the first prize in 15 years. In addition, at the age of 18, he was the youngest award winner and also the first Chinese pianist to win this prestigious award. Li was also awarded the Chopin Society's "Polonaise award" for playing the piano at the competition.
