Yurdal Tokcan
Yurdal Tokcan (* 1966 in Altınordu ) is a Turkish oud player, music teacher and composer .
Tokcan studied at the Istanbul Technical University Conservatory until 1988 , where he taught during his studies. From 1990 he traveled through Turkey, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain as a member of the orchestra of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, led by Necdet Yaşar . He is also a founding member of the Istanbul Sazendeleri and a member of the Istanbul Fasıl Ensemble and the Istanbul Tasavvuf Music Ensemble .
As a soloist he has appeared with the Amsterdam Percussion Group and the Tekfen Philharmonic Orchestra . He gave a concert in France with Burhan Ocal , Goksel Baktagir , Selim Guler and Arif Erdebil , the live recording of which was named the best ethnic album of the year in 1998. Further musical partners were Kudsi Ergüner's Ensemble, the Israeli group Baharat and the Kanun player Goksel Baktagir.
Tokcan represented Turkey at the Third International Oud and Latva Festival in Dresden and (alongside Ara Dinkjian , Simon Shaheen , Haig Yazdijan and Omar Bashir ) at the International Oud Meeting in Thessaloniki. In 2003 he performed at the Oud Festival in Jordan and at the celebration of the Turkish Year in Japan, with Selim Guler , Ross Daly , Zohar Fresco and Yinon Muallem he organized a Pan-Mediterranean music festival in Jerusalem. With the Mercan Dede Ensemble he took part in the Akbank International Jazz Festival . In 2005 he gave a duo concert with Yinon Muallem at the International Oud Festival in Jerusalem.
