Yusef Forutan
Yusef Forutan (* 1891 in Tehran ; † 1979 ) was an Iranian Setar player.
Forutan was introduced to classical Persian music by his brother Mo'addab-os-Saltaneh and studied Setar with Mirza Abdollah and Tar with Mirza Hosseingholi . For a long time he played with prominent music masters exclusively at benefit events for refugees and victims of natural disasters. Only later did he appear at a concert of Persian music at the tomb of Hafez in Shiraz and record instrumental radifs on Iranian radio.
It was only in the 1980s that incorrect pressing of the double LP Iran 5 & 6 - Musiques d'Extase et de Guérison du Baloutchistan with Forutan's Setar recordings was discovered by chance. At the end of the 1990s, two CDs and two CD boxes with Forutan's concert recordings were released in Iran.
