Yusuf al-Basir

Abú Ja'kúb Júsuf ibn Ibráhím al-Basír , actually Josef ben Avraham ha-Roe (* around 960 - 970 ; † around 1040 ) was a Jewish philosopher and theologian of the Jewish religious community of the Karaites . Although he was blind, he was referred to as "ha-Ro'eh" ("the seer"). Despite this disability, he traveled extensively and discussed his works. He is considered one of the greatest Karaean authorities.

A bilingual edition, Judaeo-Arabic - German, of the work "The Book of Distinction" was published as Volume 5 in the first series of the Herder Library of the Philosophy of the Middle Ages .

Works

  • Muhtawi, translated into Hebrew as Sefer ha-Ne'imot or Zikron ha-Datot. The Arabic manuscript is in David Kaufmann's library ; the translation is available in several European libraries.
  • Al-Tamyiz, also called Al-Mansuri. It was translated into Hebrew by Tobiah ben Moses under the title Mahkimat Peti.
