Yvette Sánchez

Yvette Sánchez (born September 28, 1957 in Maracaibo ) is a Swiss Hispanist . Sánchez has been associate professor for culture and society in Latin America and Spain since October 2004 and full professor since August 2007 and director of the Centro Latinoamericano-Suizo at the University of St. Gallen since 2007 .

Career

From 1976 to 1982 Sánchez studied Ibero-Romance Philology as a major at the University of Basel, ethnology as the first minor and modern English literature as a second minor. This was followed by several months of study in Latin America ( Ecuador , Peru , Venezuela and the Dominican Republic ). During her entire study time, she worked at various schools as a teacher for Spanish and English, as a translator and as an assistant.

From 1983 to 1992 Sánchez was assistant and lecturer at the Romance Department of the University of Basel, from 1992 lecturer for Spanish and Latin American literature and film. In 1987 she completed her doctorate with a thesis on Religiosidad cotidiana en la narrativa reciente hispano-caribeña .

Ten years later, he completed his habilitation at the University of Basel. She then received positions as a substitute for the chair, and from 2004 she was Associate Professor for Spanish Language and Literature at the University of St.Gallen. She was appointed to this chair in 2007, as well as director of the Centro Latinoamericano-Suizo de la Universidad de San Gallen (CLS-HSG) and as the rector's delegate for the "Public Program" at the University of St.Gallen. She has also been President of the HSG Art Commission since 2012.
