Z ״ L , z ״ l or S ״ L , s ״ l ( Hebrew ז״ל , full form: זיכרונו לברכה ) stands for Iwrit Zichrono livracha (m.) / Zichrona livracha (f.) / Zichronam livracha (pl.) Respectively Ashkenazi- Hebrew Zichraunau (Zichrojnoj) livrocho (m.) / Zichrauno (Zichrojno) livrocho (f.) / Zichraunom (zichrojnom) livrocho (pl.) («Z» = voiced s ) and means “may his / her memory be a blessing be". Z ״ L, z ״ l or S ״ L, s ״ l is traditionally added to the name of a deceased person in Judaism , especially with people to whom the speaker or the discussed context is related personally.
In German-language literature one often writes sel. A. or s. A., which is an abbreviation of "blessed memory". Comparable non-Jewish expressions are preceded by “der / die, mein (e) blessed” or “God have him / she blessed” when naming the deceased.
