José Eduardo Rosa Vale e Castro (born January 13, 1983 in Coimbra ), called Zé Castro , is a Portuguese football player who plays at the Académica de Coimbra .

Player career

Académica Coimbra

Already in his early 20s, Zé Castro was the captain of the Portuguese first division club Académica from his hometown Coimbra . In the summer of 2006, the young Portuguese turned down some top offers from all over Europe to sign with Atlético Madrid .

Atlético Madrid

In the summer of 2006, he was able to play 22 league games and score two goals in his first season. This was significantly more than expected and was mainly due to the injuries of his teammates. Nevertheless he was able to prove his class in the jersey of the "Colchoneros".

For the 2008/09 season he was loaned to Atlético's first division rivals Deportivo La Coruña . Deportivo also had a purchase option of two million euros, which the club also exercised at the end of the loan period.

National team

Zé Castro played in numerous internationals for the youth national teams of Portugal. In the senior national team he has only played one friendly match against Estonia so far .
