The Bourbon Rose Zéphirine Drouhin was bred by the Swiss Charles Gustave Bonnet as 'Mme Gustave Bonnet' and Bizot in 1868 as 'Zephirine Drouhin' in France introduced . The variety 'Zephirine Drouhin' is named after the wife of the French rose lover Drouhin from Sémur-en-Auxois on the Côte-d'Or . It is also sold under the names 'Belle Dijonaise', 'Charles Bonnet', 'Mme Gustave Bonnet', 'Ingegnoli Predilatta'.
This not particularly hardy variety forms strong, large shrubs that can reach heights of up to 3 meters. Its shoot is red-leaved. It is considered the most famous "thornless" rose. 'Zéphirine Drouhin' can be grown as a shrub rose , in column form or on a trellis as a climbing rose, needs an airy space and is unfortunately a little susceptible to mildew . 'Zéphirine Drouhin' has loosely double , light red, about 9 cm large, strong, sweet smelling flowers . It blooms permanently from June to autumn. In the fall, it bears large, orange-colored rose hips .
She received the RHS Prize in 1993 .
