Location of Zöbingen in Baden-Württemberg

Zöbingen is a district of Unterschneidheim in Baden-Württemberg Ostalbkreis . The once independent town was incorporated into Unterschneidheim in 1975. The hamlet of Wöhrsberg and the farmsteads Greuthof and Haidmühle belong to the village .

history

Zöbingen was first mentioned in 1239 as Zebingen . In this year the öttingian ministerial family of the Lords of Zöbingen was mentioned for the first time, as was also the case in 1281. They had their ancestral seat at the (earlier) southern end of the village, the Zöbingen Castle .

However, the history of the place may go back even further. In 1958 Pastor Hermann Weber founded the new coat of arms for the town with the following words:

"It is of great interest to me that a registry office seal from 1930" has a coat of arms with seven six-pointed stars (2x3x2). In my opinion, which some authorities found well-founded, namely Zöbingen is the place Septemiacum on Peutinger's world map , which means both Siegen-Lager-Ort or rather Siegen-Weg-Ort. Alemannic became from Septem - Septing or as they still say today, Zebing. So 7 stars are well founded. "

coat of arms

Blazon : "In red under a five-pointed golden star, a golden bell."

The golden star (Mary symbol: stella maris) and the bell as a reference to the local bell saga are intended to indicate the pilgrimage chapel to the Queen of Heaven. The colors red and gold are the colors of the House of Öttingen, who used to own the place.
