Zülpicher Tor (Nideggen)
The Zülpicher Tor is a city gate in the south of Nideggen in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It is located on Zülpicher Straße.
The Zülpicher Tor is a three-storey tower gate with simply stepped pointed arch portals. It has a passage with a flat ceiling and lateral pointed arch niches. A pointed arch cover extends over the second floor. Rectangular windows and crossbow slits are built into the city gate . The hipped roof is set across. On the city side there is a stairway on the left, which shows the roof as a three-pass figure niche under the apex of the fascia.
The gate was built in the first half of the 14th century as part of the city fortifications . In 1810 the Zülpicher Tor was demolished down to the two lower floors. The upper floor was reconstructed from 1892 to 1896.
