José Porunnedom

Mar José Porunnedom (born March 13, 1956 in Vettimattam , Idukki , India ) is an Indian clergyman and Syro-Malabar bishop of Mananthavady .

Life

José Porunnedom studied at the Minor Seminary in Tellicherry , the Seminary in Aluva and the Pontifical Urban University . He received in his home parish on December 22, 1982 Malome the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then worked as a pastor in Kottiyoor , was vicar in Santhigiri , secretary to Bishop Jacob Thoomkuzhy and chancellor of the Diocese of Tellicherry . In 1986 he was sent to Rome, where he obtained a doctorate in canon law from the Orient Institute .

On March 18, 2004, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Mananthavady. The Syro-Malabar Grand Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly, Varkey Cardinal Vithayathil CSsR , donated him episcopal ordination on May 15 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Tellicherry, George Valiamattam , and the Archbishop of Trichur , Jacob Thoomkuzhy .
