The archeparchy Tellicherry ( Latin Archieparchia Tellicherriensis ) is in India located archeparchy the Syro-Malabar Church , based in Tellicherry , Kerala .

history

The Archeparchy Tellicherry was founded on December 31, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Ad Christi Ecclesiam from cessions of territory of the diocese of Calicut as Tellicherry eparchy . On March 1, 1973, the Tellicherry Eparchy gave up parts of its territory to establish the Mananthavady Eparchy . Another assignment of territory took place on April 28, 1986 to establish the diocese of Thamarasserry .

The Tellicherry eparchy was elevated to an archeparchy on May 18, 1995 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Spirituali bono . On April 24, 1999, the Archeparchy Tellicherry gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Belthangady .
