The Archdiocese of Raipur ( Latin Archidioecesis Raipurensis ) is an archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in India in Raipur .

It includes the districts of Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg and Rajnandgaon of the state of Chhattisgarh .

history

Pope Paul VI founded the Apostolic Prefecture Raipur with the Apostolic Constitution Religio vera on January 16, 1964 from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Nagpur .

On March 23, 1972 it lost parts of its territory to the Apostolic Exarchate Jagdalpur . With the Apostolic Constitution Quamquam Ecclesia she was raised to a diocese on July 5, 1973 , which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bhopal as a suffragan diocese.

The elevation to the metropolitan bishopric took place on February 27, 2004 with the Apostolic Constitution Cum constet Ecclesiam .
